About her
A creative career saw me living overseas for almost forty years; I find this a very foreign land. I've been lucky enough to experience endless paths less travelled (Ladakh, Bhutan, the North Pole). I'm drawn to quiet rural spaces and wildlife. I still work full-time but if I go anywhere, it's a long weekend somewhere sunny: Valetta, Toulouse, Amman. Loyalty is paramount to me, but it's also the space between that counts. As a creative thinker, I value my independence highly. Ideally, I'd like to find someone similar, who finds today's obsessive materialism tiresome. A shared desire for a kinder, more mindful life is paramount. In terms of mindset, I definitely lean towards Eastern philosophies and find the current trend in jingoistic tribalism as abhorrent as today's transactional attitudes. Days off are for cooking, faffing around a garden or quiet nature walks. (I spent time wildlife tracking in Africa). A lot can learned from standing still and quietly observing. Favourite pastimes: slow cycle rides and warm water swims. In my downtime, I truly relish time to breathe deeply, meditate and write. I'm re-learning piano - unsuccessfully. Since childhood, France has been my lifelong love: I'm an unapologetic Europhile and I'd readily move to France. My most rewarding role is being slave to an irrepressibly shouty rescue cat who adopted me in the Arabian Gulf. I love serious radio, real journalism and classical music (Rutter, Elgar, Puccini, Fauré) but enjoy Bowie, Weller and classic Motown too. I'm pragmatic and pretty unflappable emotionally, thanks to a solid grounding in reality, and a lifelong appreciation of Kahlil Gibran and Rumi. (I don't do regret or guilt). I deplore unkindness, greed and pretension. Despite my confidence and bubbly exterior, I'm a serious, old fashioned introvert, who offers laughter, loyalty and some truly appalling piano playing...
About her ideal match
I seek a well-travelled polymath, whose global mindset and cultural eclectism singles him out from the crowd. Someone who embraces foreign languages, appreciates good design and different cultures. A philosopher who is passionate about history and civilisations (and can easily articulate this beyond smalltalk). It's imperative he's multiculturally minded, has lived abroad, or travelled widely already and is not chasing bucket lists, cheap thrills or Earth Mothers. An emotionally secure, independent and fulfilled person who enjoys companionship, not codependency. Simplicity is key: finding pleasure cycling through rural idylls, wandering around a medieval souq, or kayaking out to ancient ruins. I'm definitely not seeking fans of Die Hard, or a reincarnation of Austin Powers. I'm attracted to men who are intellectually assured and who aren't looking to be bankrolled. I gravitate towards well-dressed, serious-minded, intellectual conversationalists with an artistic bent and a strong social, moral and ecological conscience. He would also need to be an unashamed cat fan, one who shares my addiction to Mediterranean light. With luck, he's still clinically sane, has impeccable old fashioned manners (John Le Mesurier, not Bertie Wooster), but most of all, has a sense of humour, decency and kindness, which is evident from his profile.
